A new camp with deep roots in care.

Camp Horseshoe is an inclusive adult summer camp in Horseshoe Valley for adults with developmental disabilities and individualized support needs. Set among the trees and trails of Minesing, Ontario, our day and overnight programs give campers the chance to explore new activities, build meaningful friendships, enjoy the outdoors, and experience the best parts of summer camp in a setting designed around dignity, safety, and personal support.

Camp Horseshoe operates as a programming extension of Residential Centers, an organization with a long history of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities through residential services, day programs, crisis support, and life-skills training. Across its work, Residential Centers

takes an individualized, evidence-informed approach, delivered by trained staff who champion personal choice, independence, community inclusion, and respect for each person’s needs and goals.

Creating a summer camp was the natural next step. After years of helping people build skills, confidence, and connection, Camp Horseshoe brings that same commitment into a warm outdoor setting where adults can try new things, form relationships, and take part in a summer experience made for them. We are proud to welcome campers and families to our first season, and we invite you to begin your inquiry today.

Understanding

Understood, not assessed.

Our review process isn't a hurdle to clear; it's a conversation. Before camp begins, we take the time to learn who your family member is: their routines, their comfort zones, what makes a good day good. That way the support we plan actually fits the person, and day one feels less like starting over and more like being expected.

Great support doesn't happen by accident — it's planned, personal, and rooted in respect. Three commitments shape how we work with every camper, every day.

Empowering

Capable, not limited.

We presume competence in every camper. That means real activities with real choices, support that steps in where it's needed and steps back where it isn't, and a team that notices what each person brings, then builds the summer around it. Campers leave having done things, not just watched them.

Safeguarding

Safe, not sheltered.

Physical and emotional safety underpin everything at camp, but safety here isn't a reason to sit out. It's what makes joining in possible. Trained staff, careful planning, and individualized support give campers the security to try something new, take a healthy chance, and be proud of it.

Supporting adults with developmental disabilities requires more than good intentions. It takes preparation, judgment, consistency, and a team that understands how to balance safety, dignity, independence, and personal choice. Across Camp Horseshoe, our program team is trained and supported in key areas of care, communication, safety, behaviour support, emergency response, and individualized planning, so families can feel confident that each camper’s experience is guided by people who are ready to support them well.
